Self Storage Rental Checklist

Updated: Jun 6

We get a lot of calls for storage units, but most customers are not sure what they need in terms of unit type, but also they are not prepared to offer the required information. We have covered the types of units in another post, so this one will focus on the information required to execute a lease. Before calling or going online to reserve a unit, it will help to have the following information ready to go:

  • Name: This sounds ridiculous, but sometimes people rent for others who are not able or capable to rent on their own. Make sure you have the correct spelling.

  • Mailing Address: This is where invoices and notifications will be sent if the customer chooses not to receive electronic transmissions. It's very important that this is accurate. Any changes need to be communicated with the facility operator.

  • Email: Most customers will choose to communicate through email. Tenants will want to use an email address that is checked frequently so they do not miss important communications.

  • Emergency Contact: Most facility operators will ask for an emergency contact so that person can be contacted in the event the tenant becomes unreachable or unresponsive. Have their name, email and phone number ready.

  • Drivers License / Alternative ID: This is required for the facility operator to confirm that the tenant is who they say they are. If the customer is signing up online, a photo of the DL will need to be uploaded.

  • Payment Method: Know ahead of time how you will be paying for the unit. At Oliver Self Storage, we accept Cash, Check, Credit Card and Bank Debit. Credit card users pay a card fee, but all other methods do not.

  • Auto Pay: Optionally, our system enables customers to set up auto-pay which automatically charges the payment method on file when the billing cycle refreshes. This works with both card users and ACH bank debit users. This option is obviously not available for Cash / Check users.

  • Billing Date: By default, the billing cycle starts on the day the lease is signed or the scheduled move-in date. The cycle re-starts on the same date every month. If you want to be billed on a different date of the month, communicate this to the facility operator so we can adjust the billing cycle.

  • Door Codes: Our indoor customers will receive a code to access the loading zones and their units after signing the lease. Keep this information in a safe place. If you lose this info, you can log into your portal account and retrieve it from the lease tab or call the rental office for assistance.

  • Locks: Customers supply their own locks. Please don't forget to take it with you to the unit when you move in and please remove it upon move-out.

Once you have everything together, visit our site HERE to search all units at both of our locations.
